Senior Takes First in County Shakespeare Competition
Posted 03/12/2018 12:57PM

For the second consecutive year, a Red Bank Bank Catholic student has won the county level of the National Shakespeare Competition. Congratulations to senior Devlin Stark for taking first place Saturday in the county level of the competition sponsored by the English Speaking Union.  In this program, high school students nationwide read, analyze, perform and recite Shakespearean monologues and sonnets.

The competition, held at Brookdale's Performing Arts Center, was the second of three qualifying stages for the national title.  Devlin was first selected from a competition held in school to represent Red Bank Catholic at the March 10th Monmouth County competition.

As the Monmouth County winner, Devlin receives an all-expense-paid trip to travel to New York City to compete at the National Competition scheduled for April 22nd  – 24th.   She and the other students will perform their monologues and sonnets before a distinguished panel of judges and their fellow contestants from across the country. Based upon their performances, seven to ten students advance to the final round. Finalists, performing their selections along with a cold reading of a monologue, will compete for cash prizes and the opportunity to attend a summer drama program.

Devlin is very excited for the next stage and said, "It was thrilling to be part of the regional competition. Everyone was so talented and I loved watching them all perform Shakespeare. The language is so beautiful and poetic. I can't wait to represent our county at Nationals!"  Break a leg Devlin!
